Money is a very large and a very broad topic. It encompasses so many area’s that a person can spend day’s on each topic and only be scratching the surface of them. One of the topics that is quite often overlooked, but is so very important, is the topic of managing your money.

People have a tendency to be really focused on increasing their income, or researching investments, or learning about taxes, but when it comes to the managing of their money, they put it on the back burner. The problem is that it is a vital part in the whole money subject.

People have a tendency to get their pay check or however they make their money and they just take what they need for what they want. No one has ever taught them how to handle it. If people learned some basic money management skills, they could be putting their money to what is really important to them instead of what just comes up.

We live in a society that conditions us to spend and to shop. Now, I don’t think that there is anything wrong with spending your money but I have seen too many people go out there and buy something only to later on regret the purchase.

What if people started to learn money management and applied it. Everything that is truly important to them would be covered. Everyone would have money set aside for their retirement. Just imagine, kids that are just getting out of high school and having the choice whether or not they need to get a job. Money management can do that.

People always say that they will start to manage their money when they have some money. What they don’t realize is that they will have money when they start to manage their money.

Smart money management strategies for the average person to build money habits of the wealthy.

If there is any one, straightforward way to get better at managing your finances, it would definitely be learning from the wealthy people. Why? Simply because of their habits.

The primary reason why the wealthy are successful at having money has nothing to do with luck. If that was the case, every lottery/jackpot winner would be a millionaire. However, evidence again and again shows that those same lottery/jackpot winners always go down all the way back to their previous levels of being financially broke. To the uninitiated, this seems inexplicable, since it is assumed anyone would instantly be rich just by having a million dollars.

Why then would the jackpot winners lose it all? Simply because of their habits. Everybody knows humans are creatures of habit, but what they do not realise is that our results, especially financial results, are determined to a great degree by our money habits. It is how you MANAGE your finances, not how you SPEND. Therein lies the fundamental difference in the level of successes enjoyed by the rich and the poor.

The secondary reason why the rich get richer is simply because, since they already know how to manage that much money, they can always start learning how to manage even more. Ever noticed some millionaire losing all his business in a bad year, trying again and getting back up even better? That is simply because he never lost his good money management habits.

Now, the question is, what can you learn from them about budgeting habits? Incredibly simple, but profound. It is to assign mental purpose to your money. Once a portion of your money has been assigned a purpose by you, guess what happens? It usually serves that exact purpose. Incredulous? Try it!

So now you have learnt to assign mental purpose to specific amounts of money, how do you go about getting richer? Simply keep on practising the above exercise. Why? Practice makes ‘PERMANENT’, not perfect. This is because of the same principle laid out above: our habits.

Learning how to create a personal budget can seem a little daunting to some people. In reality though, a budget is easy to set up and effective when in use. I know this because when I could not figure out where all my money was going I decided to create a budget and educate myself further on where exactly my money was going.

Living pay check to pay check? Wonder if you will have enough money to make if to the end of the your current pay period? Feeling stressed by bills that seem to keep rolling in, one after the other? I too know this feeling as I have been in the very same situation as you are now, only I did something about it.

The best thing you can do when struggling financially is to try and manage your money the best way you can. Most people agree that a budget would be one of the most effective ways to manage your money.

A budget is basically a financial plan that compares income against expenditure. This process can help you save money as you will begin to notice the expenses that actually contribute to your lack of savings. When I began to plan my personal budget I listed exactly where I was spending money and broke it down into different categories, example: needs, wants, outings etc., and slowly began to dissect these areas of expenditure, researched different ways to save money within each category and continued from there.

Good budgeting tools and techniques will show you effective ways to cut down on bills and expenses, alleviating debt, whilst creating savings in the process.

Most people do not realize just how much money they spend in comparison to earnings! (it’s a lot more than you think!). When I eventually got the nerve to create my own personal budget I was shocked at just how much money I was spending unnecessarily (no wonder I could not save any money). This of course really got me thinking about my financial future.

When you create a personal budget make sure you are clear about your goals. Be reasonable when planning your finances and make sure to give yourself room to breath. The last thing you want is to feel as though you are missing out, because you don’t have to.

There are two types of people in this world when it comes to money, those that plan and plan well, and those that fail to plan and never plan. There is nothing wrong with not being good with your money. It is a talent that not all of us are blessed with and the problem is that a lot of people struggle to admit that they are horrible with money. This is one of the things that causes marriages to fail and this is one of the things that makes it hard for someone to be willing to spend their entire life with a single person. It is not that they cannot manage money, but that they will not admit that they are not good at it. Here are some things to consider if you are not one of the budget planners in the world.

First, when you know you cannot manage money and you know you are more likely to spend than to save, then you need to admit this to yourself. This does not mean that you cannot save money, it just means that you need to have more discipline than most or some sort of system that works for you. Some people have to get a savings account that is online and will only allow you to get access to the money in it if you are willing to transfer it to another account and that usually takes a few days. This works for some and others have to have a partner that can manage the money and let them know what they can and cannot spend. This could be a spouse or it could be a professional financial adviser. Either way you need help and do not be afraid to admit it.

Second, budget planners are actually a little bit rare. It is like those with incredible athletic ability. Some people just have a talent for managing money and knowing how to keep themselves and others disciplined when it comes to spending that money as well. If you are not good at this, then another option other than having someone do this for you is to take some classes and learn the proper ways to manage money. You can become one of the budget planners, however, if you have absolutely no desire to be good at budgeting or managing money, then you need to go ahead and turn that job over to someone else so that you have one less thing to stress you out.

Last, it is like accounting, some people just have the brain for being a bean counter and every family needs someone with this type of talent or at least someone that can say they are not good with money. If you are the one that is not good with money, but you know your spouse is not good with money either, then you need to convince them that you need to hire a financial adviser to help you both out so that your family does not fail because of money. Money can be a great servant, but an absolutely horrible master and this is something you must remember. You need to take control and if that means you need professional help with your money, then so be it.
